In chapters 7-9, Tigre and his father decide to burn the milpa. It was a tradition that they did every year. Since Tigre's uncle did not come to help him burn the milpa, Tigre had to burn it all on his own. After burning the milpa, all of Tigre;s clothing, hair, shoes were ruined. In chapter 8, Tigre wanted to join the bull ring. Tigre's father thought it was a bad idea. But, his great grand-mother allowed him to join the bull ring because he was stronger and it is what every men, as a tradition, does every year!
